Can I say anything about Lawrence of Arabia that hasn’t been said before? No. I cannot. All I can say is that I have waited years for the opportunity to see it in a theater, flat-out refusing to see it on video, and that it was well worth the wait.
I can’t find any evidence of this now, but I could swear that when it was up on the Cinerama website it said it was the first in a series of 70mm films they were going to present. I hope that is true, because it would be totally awesome.

It always pays to see Lawrence no a bigger screen. I saw it first on TV, then in a revival theater and then as a 70mm wide screen at the best theatre in New York. It was a different experience each time. it is a film that’s reputation has grown during my lifetime. It was always considered a great film but I didn’t get the feeling it was considered an all-time great till sometime in the 90s. I like when the world catches up to me.
A big-time recommendation for you. See The Stuntman if you haven’t already. It is a film meant for you. Peter O’Toole at his messianic best in a film about making a film. He was robbed when he didn’t win best actor for that.
Thanks for the rec! I just put a hold on it. I am starting to get the impression that he was robbed -every- time he didn’t win. Man.
